Zero Visibility

“We don’t see things clearly. We’re squinting in a fog, peering through a mist. But it won’t be long before the weather clears and the sun shines bright! We’ll see it all then, see it all as clearly as God sees us, knowing him directly just as He knows us.”  (I Corinthians 13:12 MSG)

I love fog. Foggy mornings are the best!

The fog gently rolls down from the mountain, silently shrouding everything in its path, transforming objects into shadows. The heavy mist hovers and then lays delicately across the fields.

I think it’s just beautiful. It hides the flaws and allows me to pause, be still.

I love the unpredictability of the fog. You never know just when it will appear. Randomly, it is denser in some places than others. It can be a thin veil lightly suspended in space. Or in the heaviest of fog, holding my hand in front of me, it takes on a ghostly appearance. Mysterious.

I love fog … however, in the area between where we live and where I work, the fog becomes so thick at times it makes driving a challenge. Luckily, I feel like I know these roads like the back of my hand, so I rely on my instinct as I navigate the route to work or home.

I trust that the road hasn’t changed even though I can’t see two feet in front of me. Zero Visibility – Trust becomes my guide.

I can be moving along at my usual speed, encounter a small patch of light fog – no problem. Then, suddenly I enter a heavily laden stretch and I tense up. I trust that roads and landmarks remain the same even when blurred or out of sight; yet I am anxious. I grip the steering wheel more tightly … drive more slowly … remain on guard.

In a fog, things aren’t always what they seem. It isn’t until you are right up on something or get into a clear spot that you can clearly discern your surroundings.

That’s life. Things aren’t always what they seem. At times, you don’t see what’s coming until it’s right up on you. It’s not until the fog lifts or you’re in a clearing that the moments of your life make sense.

Life is living with the fog. When it rolls in and becomes heavy, distorting your view. When you have zero visibility. You must let trust (in God) be your guide.

Today, do you feel as if you can’t see clearly? Do you have days, weeks, patches of time where you are squinting, peering through a mist, trying to find your way? Let trust guide you.

Trust that God sees you. Trust that God knows what lies ahead. One day, the weather will clear and in the brightness of His glory, we will see everything clearly. We will see Him as clearly as He sees us.

Today, know that God is there. Zero visibility for us – no problem. God sees it all. Let Him be your guide.
