Schooled.

Synonyms for the word Schooled include experienced, practiced, and seasoned. Well, that’s me.

My husband of over 30 years, Jim, had no idea I would spend the first 16 years of our marriage continuing my education. First, I completed a post baccalaureate certification program in secondary education English and then went on to earn a Master’s in Educational Leadership and a Doctor of Education in School Improvement. Jim continues to support every dream and desire I chase and for that I am truly grateful. Our children are grown and out of the house but we are far from having an empty nest as it is filled with fur babies who bring us joy.

Professionally, I recently retired from K-12 public education and flourishing in my second half of life. After graduating from the University of Georgia (Go Dawgs!) in 1990 with a Bachelor’s in Journalism, I began a career in public relations prior to pursuing my true calling in public education. Since the mid 1990’s, I have served as a high school English teacher, middle and high school administrator, central office executive leader and, now, superintendent. My experience outside and inside of the schoolhouse shapes my well-rounded and grounded view of leadership and life.

I am a coffee drinking, book loving, road tripping, Georgia born and raised lady. I am an introvert living as an extrovert. I am an optimistic over-thinker and a perfectly imperfect perfectionist.

I believe these simple truths: Nice matters. Friendship therapy is priceless. Time is money – be careful where you spend it and who you spend it on.

I believe in the power of one – one person, one word, one sentence, one story, one voice.
