When you take on a leadership role (formal or informal), you accept the responsibility of managing, controlling, nurturing, and/or caring for something or someone – an organization or group. In educational leadership, you accept tasks and duties given with a title. But to me it goes much deeper than that.
Mediocre leaders adequately fulfill the daily tasks and duties while good and great leaders “own it.” They are personally connected to the work. To be so invested in the success and advancement of the school, system, or organization takes energy – So much energy that others around you can feel it – You are charged! You are so attached to the work it causes an emotional response … excitement, passion.
As educational leaders, we are first and foremost charged with the care and development of children and adults. Lives. To do a good job, we must be charged – energized, passionate – about the work.
Charged to Lead.
Charged about the cause – professionally, philosophically, politically, and personally.
This calls for BIG leadership. Bold, intentional, and grateful leadership every day, everywhere.
In education, we are called and charged to lead BIG.
My leadership has purpose. That purpose is to nurture and support others by removing barriers and creating an environment where people can thrive individually and together.
I am charged to Lead BIG! I hope you are, too!
